Blog on Hiatus

So, the job I've gotten in the past two weeks has eaten 90% of my time lately - leaving me with very little to actually apply to this blog.  Instead of trying and failing to stick to the schedule I've set for myself, I feel it is more constructive to my general well-being to put it on hiatus for now and decide what to do with it at a later point.

Thank you for your readership!

Friday's Find #50 - The big 50 meets the big d20

On this, my 50th Friday's Find, I figured I should give something back... so how about something free, awesome, and really really useful to role-players like myself?  Introducing Roll20 - a completely free, open-system, online role-playing environment that allows multiple players to play table-top role-playing games online via voice and video chat.  There is a huge amount of promise in this concept, and it is only developing from here - the application is still in beta, after all!

You really should give it a look, if you have any interest at all in this form of gaming.  It's a very useful gadget!

Wednesday's Work #50 - Old Glory

This is the second major outcome of my art course weekend: a "faux encaustic" (or, as normal people would put it, "wax coated") painting.  I experimented with some mixed-media additions, as well, in the stars - and the bright white splotches are melted crayon.  The Slenderman sculpture is coming along, too, so there's that.  I'll try and have pictures up once I get into the painting stages on it.

Monday's Monologue #50 - I'm back!

After that all-too-brief and wonderfully pleasant weekend vacation, I'm once again back and once again back at work.  It's time to catch back up on my to-do list and get myself on track once more.  I have exciting opportunities (and hopefully a job!) headed my way, and I want to be ready and able to take advantage of them as they rear their heads... which means I need to get on the ball and get ready.

See you tomorrow!

Friday's Find #49 - A day early!

Because I'm going to be gone tomorrow, you get this week's recipe early (a nice way to make up for my recent delayed posts).  You should be thankful, as well, because today you get to learn how to make "Impossible" Coconut Pie!  How is it impossible?  Well, perhaps (as the original posters at Blue-Eyed Bakers think) it's just snark... but I'd say it's impossible to believe on first glance that this pie is so simple to make!  You should really give this one a try - it's a full, beautiful pie from only 7 ingredients and a single hour's time.  Take a look!

Wednesday's Work #49 - Slenderman Sculpture

A half-week's work went into this air-dry clay sculpture, as a part of art classes I took several days ago.  It's not finished yet - evidently, as even the teacher didn't know, you aren't supposed to put air-dry clay directly onto a wire armature.  With no room to contract as it dried, it's cracked a HUGE amount... and so I've been spending bits of time every day putting new clay in the cracks to counter-act the contraction and hopefully, eventually, get it to a stage where I can paint it.

In the meantime, however, here's a work in progress shot:

Monday's Monologue #49 - Duolingo!

So, I've been messing around lately with a website called Duolingo.  It's a useful free language-instruction website, which I've found to be more difficult (and thus more constructive overall) than the Rosetta Stone package I'm also using to learn Spanish with.  If nothing else, its pernicious refusal to tolerate misplaced or overlooked accent marks is definitely making my Spanish writing translations more accurate.  And as a side bonus, I'm contributing to making the web a more user-friendly place by translating Spanish web content into English for other English speakers!  It's win-win.

Check it out!
